We’re one of the UK’s leading specialist buy to let mortgage and commercial mortgage brokers. Established by managing director David Whittaker in 1990, we've earned an industry wide reputation for making property investment a reality for clients.

What we do

We are independent Mortgage brokers with whole of market access, working closely with investors to negotiate the best property funding solutions. We also work with other brokers and intermediaries who, unlike ourselves, do not have access to the specialist property finance lenders that operate via limited distribution panels.

We have taken time to develop strong relationships with lenders and we now have significant powers to negotiate with them, allowing us to offer you market leading rates and terms. Our business volumes also means we are in the privileged position of receiving preferential mortgage processing for our clients.

We can also offer exclusive mortgage products. We are the only broker to have our own lending brand, Keystone Property Finance, which is funded by Paratus AMC, Aldermore Bank and Together Money.

How we operate

Personalised service: You’ll be assigned a dedicated mortgage consultant and case manager who will deal with your application from start to finish, and then deal with all your subsequent enquiries and applications.

No automated call handling: You’ll be given direct numbers for your case manager and mortgage consultant. You’ll never have to listen to a robot or press ‘one now’! Please note, that calls may be monitored or recorded.

Swift application processing: We 'package' for all the major lenders, so we control the process. This means that your application is unlikely to be held up.

Our service levels and processing were recognised in 2007 when the NACFB (National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers) awarded us ‘Fellowship Status’; and we are still the only UK broker to have received this award.

While most business is conducted over the phone, via email and online, we can visit you if that is your preference. And of course, you are welcome to visit us. Our corporate headquarters are based in Kings Hill, Kent and our North of England office is in Manchester (Wilmslow, Cheshire).

Our history

Mortgages for Business was established in 1990 by managing director David Whittaker who spotted a gap in the market brokering commercial mortgages to business owner-occupiers. The business began with just three people and a dog in a small office in the village of Seal in Kent.

As the population's interest in property investment grew, so did Mortgages for Business. The company started to win awards and gained a reputation as specialists in brokering buy to let as well as commercial mortgages. In 1992 Mortgages for Business was instrumental in setting up the National Association of Finance Brokers, the trade body that promotes best practice within the industry. In 1994 and 2001 David served as the Association’s President.

In 2008 the financial crisis hit. In the space of less than a year, the number of buy to let products crashed from 500 to 50 or so until eventually there were less than a handful of lenders left in the market. David Whittaker had to make some tough decisions. With a heavy heart he laid off the majority of staff, leaving a team of just 20.

In the spring of 2010, came the first signs of recovery when former leading buy to let lender Paragon Mortgages once again opened its doors to borrowers. Not long afterwards other lenders, old and new entered the market. Mortgages for Business started to recruit, bringing back a number of staff members that were made redundant during the financial crisis.

In 2012, we felt that the market was strong enough to support another buy to let lender, so we launched Keystone Buy to Let Mortgages, a lending brand funded initially by Aldermore Bank. The brand and product offerings continued to grow with more funding lines from Together Money and Paratus AMC. In 2016, Keystone changed its name to Keystone Property Finance to better reflect the breadth of finance available.

Also in 2016, both Mortgages for Business and Keystone moved from Sevenoaks High Street where we had been based for more than 10 years, to 8,500 sq ft of modern office space in Kings Hill. The new location gives us room to grow over the next 10 years. Today the team comprises more than 50 across all departments both in Kent and Cheshire.
