Charities
We work with a number of charities each year to raise money for worthy causes. This is what we have done so far in 2011.
In October 2011, case manager, Rebecca Glover, organised Jeans for Genes day in the Sevenoaks office. The idea is a simple one: donate £2 and wear your jeans into the office. Everyone who was due in the office that day participated (apart from Michael Williams who forgot but gave £2 anyway). A total of £46 was raised. Rebecca said,
"It might be a small amount but if all businesses participated each year so much could be raised collectively. It's not difficult to do and makes such a difference to helping improve the lives of children with genetic disorders."
In April 2011, business development manager, Nick Blunt, successfully ran the London Marathon in a time of 4 hours and 16 minutes. Not only did he raise more than £1,500 for Children with Lukaemia, he also managed to hobble into work the very next day. Congratulations Nick!
Not to be out done, in May 2011, mortgage consultant Andy McOwat took part in the Great Manchester Run for the second year in a row. Andy finished the course in 53 minutes and has now raised over £4,500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Next year he plans to run the race again and then swim a mile around Salford Keys on the same day. Go Andy, go Andy...
In previous years:
Our charities for 2007 and 2008 were:
Hospice in the Weald – www.hospiceintheweald.org.uk
Demelza House - www.demelzahouse.org.
In December 2007 we made a substantial donation towards the much needed music therapy room that is being developed by the hospice. The Therapy Room will offer therapeutic activities for patients alongside medical, social, emotional and spiritual support. It is designed to complement the other creative therapies offered by the hospice and provides patients another way to express their creativity.
That year instead of running a traditional office secret Santa, we decided to buy presents for a more worthy cause! So staff brought presents for the children and staff at Demelza House. In total over 40 presents were donated, and it is hoped that they will be a nice surprise for the children. Bottles of wine and chocolates were given to the staff.
Demelza House is an 8-bedded children's hospice offering terminally ill children (and their families) much needed care and support that they need. One of the charities aims is to add life to days, when days cannot be added to life. It’s hoped that by providing these gifts for the children, it will make their days much more enjoyable and create some happy memories for their families.
