Austin to oversee private rented sector - buy to let mortgages
15 June 2009
Landlords with buy to let mortgages now have a new minister overseeing their sector of the housing market.
Ian Austin has joined the Communities and Local Government department as part of prime minister Gordon Brown's government shake-up and the MP will take on the responsibilities for the private rented sector.
Hartlepool MP Iain Wright had been in charge of this area for the last two years, but has now moved elsewhere in Mr Brown's government.
National Landlords Association (NLA) chairman David Salusbury welcomed the new arrival, but also thanked Mr Wright for his work over the last couple of years.
He added: "The recently published government recommendations for the sector are ambitious and to ensure that the voice of landlords is heard throughout the consultation process, the NLA hopes to meet Mr Austin as soon as possible."
One Communities and Local Government proposal was that a new landlord register be developed to help monitor the industry.
