Australians eye British property - buy to let mortgages
17 June 2009
Two London-based property experts have revealed that there has been a strong interest in UK property investment from Australians.
According to the Australian Daily Telegraph, chairman of the north-west London division of the National Association of Estate Agents Martyn Gerrard, and estate agent Steve Smith have both noted this pattern emerging lately.
With Property Hawk website editor Chris Horne claiming that demand for buy to let mortgages has remained high in recent months, it would appear that many of the requests have been from those who have come from down under.
Mr Gerrard told the newspaper that he has witnessed "a lot of foreign interest in April/May not just from Australia but from other places (such as Japan and Europe as a whole)".
Meanwhile, around ten to 15 per cent of the landlords on Mr Smith's books apparently come from Australia.
