Birmingham property to be refurbished - commercial mortgages
10 July 2008
In news which may interest those with commercial mortgages in Birmingham, a major commercial building in the city is to be refurbished in a bid to ensure it remains a viable prospect for potential tenants.
Hermes Real estate will carry out a green revamp of its 101,582 sq ft industrial and warehouse property at Athena Point in Aston, the Birmingham Post reports.
Solar panels, water-saving washrooms and energy-efficient appliances will all be introduced to the site.
The company''s asset manager Bob Dawson told the paper potential tenants are becoming more "discerning" about sustainability issues.
He added that the company is "confident that this refurbishment will create a sustainable asset that will perform well in the long-term".
A number of eco-friendly commercial property developments have been instigated recently, hinting that this factor may be a key to drawing in new tenants in the future.
Earlier this month developer Castlemore Securities was granted permission to build a £130 million new eco-friendly office in Glasgow.
The company''s spokesman Nigel Crump told the Green Building Press that "green credentials are fundamental in any building, particularly a new one".
