Birmingham seeks central expansion - commercial mortgages
27 February 2008
In news which may interest those with commercial mortgages, city planners in Birmingham have unveiled a blueprint which will see the city centre expanded into surrounding areas, which could mean the creation of many new office and other commercial premises.
The initiative, known as the Big City Plan, will involve expanding the central business district southwards into areas such as Digbeth, the markets area and Attwood Green, Property Week reports.
Over the next 18 months the plans for developing this area will be the subject of public consultation, which the plan proposes to include a new creative hub to rival the Media City development in Salford, Greater Manchester.
There are already a number of large office premises just west of the city centre in the Five Ways area of Edgbaston
Birmingham is the largest single local authority in the UK, with a resident population of just over one million.
