Buy to let landlords 'look for good tenants'

Buy to let landlords looking for tenants for their residential properties seek those who are house proud and likely to pay rent on time, a newspaper writer has suggested.
The Guardian's Marc Lockley said that property viewings are a "two-way interview" between landlord and tenant and there are certain things that both parties need to be sure of before a deal is agreed.
For landlords, "a nightmare tenant can be a costly mistake", Mr Lockley asserted, adding that many seek good tenant references from previous landlords and are looking primarily for reliability.
Meanwhile, tenants should take careful note of several pieces of information - including whether the property is well-insulated, whether bills for water and other utilities are included and when the property will be available.
Recently, lenders of buy to let mortgage products were urged by an industry expert to be "more aggressive" when making loans available.
Smartlandlord.co.uk managing director Keshav Thukaram made the assertion following the publication of the latest figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders earlier this month.
