Buy to let landlords 'provide flexibility'

Buy to let mortgage holders who rent their homes out to tenants play an important part in the housing industry, it has been suggested.
Steve Hilton, spokesperson for the National Landlords Association, said that his organisation has been working hard to ensure the private rented sector is not seen as second best when it comes to living arrangements in the UK.
His comments come after Spareroom.co.uk published research recently that claimed the average age of a UK tenant is 28, which is three years older than the average tenant in 2006.
"Rental accommodation, when it is at its best, is providing flexibility for those people who choose that path," Mr Hilton explained.
He also indicated that it is not surprising that the average tenant in the country is getting older because people are finding it increasingly difficult to find deposits to secure mortgage deals.
Spareroom.co.uk's study also found that the number of lodgers in the UK has increased by more than 67 per cent in the last year and is now at an all-time high.
