Buy to let owners: 2010 is the 'year of the landlord'

09 March 2010

Written by Gavin Elley

Buy to let property owners may be pleased to hear claims that 2010 "is the year of the landlord".

This was the prediction of Jon Brown, partner relationship manager at iammoving.com, who states that 2010 is already proving positive for landlords.

While the UK housing market has recovered slightly, there are many who are renting for the time being but aspire to own a house in the future, he says.

This could also mean that the UK experiences a similar property market to Germany's, where tenants decide to rent on a longer term.

Mr Brown adds: "This change in current values, both financial and philosophical will lead to a more general approval of the idea that a rented house can be a home."

His comments follow reports from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, which said there are some visible signs of recovery around Europe.

UK house prices were also found to have risen by ten per cent since last April, when they hit their lowest point.
