Commercial mortgage holders 'should make property energy efficient'

18 August 2010

Written by Steve Olejnik

Commercial mortgage holders may consider making their properties more energy efficient after one expert suggested this was what businesses were looking for in a site.

Managing director of the National EPC Company Marc Blomfield told the Coventry Telegraph that environmentally-friendly offices will become popular among firms.

"Making offices sustainable will help companies in the battle against the energy price hike," he explained.

Once commercial properties are required to include energy efficiency rating on their sales documents, the ones that are not eco-friendly will be less attractive to businesses, he stated.

According to the news provider, it is predicted that all offices will need an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) graph from December onwards.

Mr Blomfield noted this documentation was the responsibility of the landlord, not the agent.

Currently, residential portfolio investors are required to have an EPC when leasing property.
