Commercial mortgage landscape assessed

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) has released a number of statements on both the residential and commercial property sectors in recent weeks.
Issues discussed by the organisation are relevant to those with mortgages for house purchasing and people with commercial mortgages.
Earlier this week, Rics reflected on the Bank of England's latest lending data and suggested that the 50,123 mortgages approved for property buying in July "is testament to the continuing recovery in the housing market".
Meanwhile, a recent survey on the sustainability of commercial property from the group indicated that green issues remain high on the agenda in this sector despite the economic climate.
Some 40 per cent of the real estate professionals who took part in the study thought sustainability was a more important consideration in 2009 than it was last year.
Rics chief economist Simon Rubinsohn suggested that, although those with business mortgages know they should adopt green initiatives, they expect the measures "to offer a payback in terms of cost savings in the medium term".
