Commercial property investment ''exceeds £27 billion'' - commercial mortgages
05 July 2007
Commercial real estate investment in the UK totalled more than £27 billion in the first half of 2007, new research has revealed.
Property Data has reported that the figures show that the UK is maintaining the record pace of commercial investment seen in 2006, though this year''s figures reveal that foreign investment is becoming more prominent, according to Reuters.
Speaking to the news agency, an analyst at CB Richard Ellis said that the market was likely to perform well as 2007 progressed.
"One can overdo the idea that the market will run out of steam in the second half. There are still significant volumes of money out there looking to find a home in real estate. It''s still a very active market," commented the firm''s head of UK research and consulting Peter Damesick.
Last month the Observer reported that overseas investment had been focusing on retail and office space since the turn of the century, a trend that has likely led to an increase in the number of commercial mortgages being borrowed.
