Commercial property tenants ''must reduce energy consumption'' - commercial mortgages
07 June 2007
UK companies need to take steps towards reducing energy consumption in their offices, according to experts at Fujitsu Siemens Computers.
It is argued that commercial property tenants such as those with commercial mortgages, must place greater emphasis on energy reduction for environmental reasons, with fears that a failure to do so could lead to problems in the future.
In addition, Fujitsu warns that power cuts could be evidenced in the future during periods of warmer weather. Dave Scott, head of communications, emphasizes the environmental benefits of reducing power consumption.
"There''s an inextricable link between the amount of power you consume and your carbon footprint," he said.
"The projections in rising energy consumption is not going to go away, and is something which needs to be addressed immediately."
Businesses with commercial mortgages in ''power-hungry'' areas such as the City and Canary Wharf in London could be more likely to experience power outages, due simply to greater strain on supply.
The reduction of the carbon footprint of UK buildings is the focus of an engineering industry debate this week, at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, according to Azobuild.com.
