Consumer confidence 'may return' to housing market

Buy to let landlords may be affected by consumer confidence in the housing market this year.
According to company director at the Little House Company Jane Marr: "Consumer confidence is catching."
This could mean that more houses will come onto the market and could force prices to drop.
Consequently, there may be a "kick start" to the housing market that would encourage more people to buy property, Ms Marr explained.
The general election to be held this year could have an effect on the industry, but the results will be optimistic either way, she continued.
Her comments follow reports from Rightmove yesterday (January 25th) that 53 per cent of people predicted house prices would rise this year.
Participants were surveyed in the first quarter this year and their estimations were a slight drop from the 56 per cent who said the same in the final quarter of 2009.
This report "will only serve to get those thinking about buying and selling property off the fence", Ms Marr noted.
