Eco construction challenge revealed by government

17 March 2010

Written by Michael Aglony

Commercial mortgage holders may be interested in findings from the Low Carbon Construction Innovation and Growth Team (IGT), which could affect how properties are built in the future.

According to chief construction adviser Paul Morrell, there is a challenge in the commercial construction industry for everybody to work together and meet carbon reduction commitments by 2020.

Opportunities for the sector include recruiting future generations into the green industry.

Commercial mortgage holders in the capital could also be affected by the announcement that London is to be designated a Low Carbon Economic Area for energy efficient buildings.

"The construction industry provides huge value to the economy and the Government will not be able to hit its carbon targets without the active engagement and participation of the whole sector," said business minister Ian Lucas.

ACT ON CO2 has been implemented by the government to encourage Britons to tackle the issue of climate change.
