Experts promote practicality in carpet choices

People planning to purchase a new carpet may wish to consider practicality.

Interior designer Carolyn Parker noted this issue is important when selecting floor coverings.

Individuals intending to utilise property development finance to buy these items might want to select "middle range shades - the natural colours", as the specialist claimed dirt does not show up as strongly on these fittings as on particularly dark tones.

Striped carpeting can look "fantastic" on staircases, the designer stated, noting hallways and landings do not have to have the same appearance.

As this piece of carpet will probably be utilised the most, this is also a practical decision, Ms Parker declared.

She promoted the use of wool floor coverings, which she argued are simple to clean.

A CarpetFoundation.com spokesman pointed out this material is "totally sustainable".

It is relatively easy to maintain and has been made for centuries, he continued.

However, the representative said the "abrasion resistance of the pile" can be boosted by adding nylon to the carpet, with most hall coverings consisting of around 20 per cent of this material, with this figure occasionally 100 per cent.

Nylon "really is an excellent carpet fibre", the expert stated, arguing there is "very little" negative he could say about the material.

People with limited funds for property development may wish to utilise polypropylene, which he said is "low in price" and can often be very light.

This substance flattens quite easily and frequently does not recover from this, the specialist declared.

At present, beige-coloured twist pile is the most popular carpet style sold in the UK, he continued.

There is a "very wide range" of carpeting available, however, the expert commented.

"Broadly speaking, I would say that you get what you pay for," he added, recommending that members of the public visit companies that will give them appropriate and professional advice and take care of them.

"Go to somebody you can trust," the spokesman remarked.
