Firms 'must be aware of financial support' - commercial mortgages

It is vital that companies understand the level of financial support - such as commercial mortgages - that is available to them during the economic downturn, it has been stated.

Business minister Shriti Vadera has outlined the importance of firms seeking help with money if necessary during the recession.

Speaking at a roadshow in Birmingham, she noted: "It's crucial that businesses understand what support is available to them from banks and the government."

The event was designed to bring together representatives from lenders, regional development agencies, ministers and the Business Link service.

Advantage West Midlands corporate director for economic development Richard Hutchins commented that the occasion helped to "carry on the conversation between businesses, banks and the government about availability of finance".

Meanwhile, last week's Budget announcement from the chancellor included plans to allow loss-making companies to claim back taxes made on profits over the last three years.
