Government's energy-efficient offer "an all-round winner" - buy to let mortgages
12 September 2008
A councillor has urged landlords to take advantage of the government's scheme to help them install energy-efficient measures in their homes.
Kate Kravis, the portfolio holder for housing and well-being for West Somerset council, has highlighted the fact that those with buy to let mortgages can claim back up to £1,500 paid out for insulation work.
She added that this could benefit both landlords and tenants - and help to keep occupants warmer.
"Not only will this help their tenants save money in these days of rocketing fuel bills, it will also increase the value of a landlord's property if they should decide to sell it," she remarked.
People should take action before the winter sets in, she advised, describing the government's offer as an "all-round winner".
The landlord's energy saving allowance scheme has been extended to 2015.
Insulation for hot water systems and draught proofing are among the improvements it will aid financially.
