Health and safety campaign launched ? buy to let mortgages
26 February 2009
A campaign has been launched to raise awareness about the health and safety responsibilities held by property developers.
The initiative which could be relevant to those with buy to let mortgages is being spearheaded by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
It comes after the HSE discovered that many people in the process of developing properties are not aware of the legal obligations that they should adhere to under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.
Commenting on the move, HSE spokesperson Robert Parkes stated: "Whether you think of yourself as a property investor, developer or renovator, everyone has a role to play."
Unite representative Bob Blackman said of the campaign: "Health and safety should be seen as something that helps a development run smoothly."
Meanwhile, the importance of fire safety in rental homes was highlighted by the National Landlords Association, which has created an online tool for landlords to assess their precautions.
