Heart of Hawick project welcomed - commercial mortgages
26 January 2007
A new regeneration project in Hawick, which could benefit people considering commercial mortgages, has been welcomed by the shadow foreign secretary William Hague.
Visiting the Heart of Hawick project, which will see the development of new retail and leisure facilities, Mr Hague said that the work will have positive benefits for the local community, the Hawick News reports.
"This Heart of Hawick project is a clear example of how European regeneration money can help to rebuild communities," he said.
"The work that has been carried out is clearly going to make a significant impact to the local economy."
Hawick''s regeneration programme, which includes improvements to the town centre, is expected to see the renovation of two buildings which are to be used for a theatre and cinema, in addition to a cafe and bar.
The project is being supported by both the European Union and Heritage Lottery Funding.
