Interior design is 'essential' - buy to let mortgages

Owning an interior-designed property is a major bonus when attracting prospective tenants, an industry insider has claimed.

Head of marketing for design company Architect Your Home Nina Longstaff stated that having professional work carried out on a rental home is essential rather than "nice to have".

The advice may be significant for those with buy to let mortgages.

"Landlords at this end of the market have to work harder to attract the best tenants and interior design is a key element in achieving that," she added.

She noted that increased competition has had benefits for the interior design sector, particularly at the higher end of the market.

A recent survey by Liverpool Victoria found that more than £4 billion is currently being spent on home improvement work by owners who have changed their mind about selling.

In addition, it revealed that 4.7 million people were intending to fit a new bathroom.
