Johnson lays down Olympic challenge - commercial mortgages
22 August 2008
London mayor Boris Johnson has challenged investors and developers to come up with radical plans to ensure the strongest possible economic legacy for east London emerges from the 2012 Olympic Games.
Speaking as the Beijing games draw towards a close, Mr Johnson called for "startling new ideas" to ensure a string future for the area, Property Week reports.
This view was echoed by Sir Robin Wales, mayor of the London borough of Newham which contains the Olympic Park.
He said: "The Olympic Park sits at the heart of an area of unrivalled opportunity for business; one of the largest urban development sites in Europe."
A successful legacy project could create many business opportunities for those seeking commercial mortgages in east London in the next few years.
One development that may help boost the prospects for east London is the enhancement of public transport to the area.
It is a stated aim of the 2012 organisers that it should be possible to get every spectator to the events without need to use a car.
