Landlords are being 'more sympathetic'

Buy to let landlords are being sympathetic to their tenants who are struggling financially, according to a report.
Easyroommate.co.uk discovered an 11 per cent drop in the amount of landlords who had tried to remove tenants from properties since the third quarter of 2008.
For some four years prior to this period there had been an increase in this figure, which hit a peak of 56,700 tenant evictions in the year before the third quarter of 2008.
Solicitor at LandlordLaw.co.uk Tessa Shepperson said: "A good landlord will
make accommodations for a tenant who is a good tenant but is just in temporary difficulties."
Ms Shepperson admitted that landlords must cover their own costs and cannot give reductions on rent that they will not afford.
However, it is sometimes a sensible option to accommodate tenants who may be struggling slightly with finances but that are overall good renters.
"That tenant is going to be a grateful tenant and they will make efforts to pay in future and look after the property," she explained.
In the twelve months from the final quarter of 2008 some 50,450 renters were evicted, easyroommate.co.uk revealed.
