Landlords 'buying homes in areas with tenant demand' - buy to let mortgages
03 April 2009
Buy to let investors are seeking properties in areas where tenant demand remains high, it has been noted.
It comes after the Association of Residential Letting Agents (Arla) reported that landlords are purchasing more homes than they are selling for the first time in the past two years.
Commenting on this, Arla operations manager Ian Potter stated that "serious" investors are "looking at the right types of property" to buy.
He explained that some buy to let mortgages holders purchase houses with a "five to 15, even 20-year" plan in mind.
"They would expect property prices to make a recovery in the long-term," Mr Potter added.
Arla's members' survey of the private rented sector for the first quarter of this year showed that agents have recorded a rise in the amount of landlords buying homes.
The organisation claimed that this represents an upturn in sentiment within the sector.
