Landlords improve energy efficiency of homes - buy to let mortgages
05 September 2008
The majority of landlords have made improvements to the energy efficiency of their rental properties, according to a new report.
A survey from buy to let mortgages lender Paragon found that 62 per cent of owners had installed double glazing and 56 per cent had added a new boiler since purchase.
It also showed that a third had laid roof insulation.
New laws regarding the issue are set to come into force in the next month - landlords will legally have to provide an energy performance certificate if they are letting their house.
Managing director of Paragon John Heron said: "Landlords should be aware of the financial assistance available to them to improve the energy performance of their properties."
Meanwhile, two of the largest UK energy suppliers recently announced price increases, with npower putting up gas by 26 per cent and ScottishPower hiking it by 34.4 per cent, reported uSwitch.
