Landlords 'must carry out repairs' ? buy to let mortgages
01 December 2008
An environmental health representative has warned those with buy to let mortgages of the importance of carrying out repairs to a property.
Speaking at the Landlord and Buy to Let Show held recently in Birmingham, Neil Marsden from the Residential Landlords Association said that property investors have got a responsibility to keep houses and flats in good condition.
"If a tenant notifies us of a necessary repair and we chose to do nothing and are given reminders then, at the end of the day, the tenant is entitled to have the repairs carried out and deduct it from the rent," he remarked.
Mr Marsden went on to describe how the state of the property should reflect its "age, location and character".
Recently, the National Landlords Association advised people to protect against power cuts and leaks, as well as frozen pathways and pipes as winter approaches.
