Landlords 'must use internet' - buy to let mortgages
28 November 2008
Those with buy to let mortgages have been urged to utilise the internet more when trying to attract tenants.
James Davis, the founder and chief executive of upad - a London rental property website - has outlined how landlords can use the web to promote their portfolios.
The internet is a "one-stop shop" for people looking for a suitable house or flat to rent, he said, adding that it allows them to seek properties that meet their "exact criteria".
He remarked: "This industry, which is an inherently offline one, has to move online."
Mr Davis noted that the tenant market has gone up by 13 per cent over the past three years, claiming that there are 5.2 million renters and over a million landlords currently in the UK.
Meanwhile, the latest Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors quarterly survey showed that in November, 56 per cent more of its members reported a rise in new instructions to let than a fall.
