Landlords reporting 'record demand' - buy to let mortgages

16 October 2008

Landlords are experiencing record levels of tenant demand and predicting that interest in rental property will grow over the next year, new research has found.

Trend research from Paragon Mortgages has revealed that 51 per cent of landlords stated that tenant demand was booming during the third quarter of 2008.

This is the highest proportion in the history of the survey.

In addition, when questioned about how they expected tenant demand to grow, 57.8 per cent said it would increase over the coming year - up from 53.0 per cent in the previous survey.

Managing director John Heron commented: "The private rented sector is playing an important role in providing housing for those people that can't or aren't prepared to get on the housing ladder."

Recently, the Council of Mortgage lenders disparaged claims in the media that the buy to let mortgages sector was flagging after the bail-out of Bradford & Bingley.
