23 December 2008
In news that may affect firms with commercial mortgages, Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has sent out representatives to see first-hand how businesses are dealing with the economic slowdown.
A parliamentary team has been dispatched to enterprises around the UK to witness how they are coping with the onset of recession, with Mr Clegg himself visiting visit a metal manufacturer in his Sheffield constituency.
Shadow chancellor Vince Cable will pay a visit to Haymarket Publishing as part of the initiative, which will also see surveys being sent out to businesses asking how they feel they should be supported through the downturn.
Mr Clegg commented: "Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy. It is clear that the government must be more innovative in providing support to suffering firms."
