A Labour MP is aiming to push through a bill that will protect tenants in the event of their landlord defaulting on a buy to let mortgage.
Dr Brian Iddon, Labour representative for Bolton South, said he wants to take forward the Protection of Private Tenants (Mortgage Repossession) Bill.
He indicated that he does not want people to lose their home "through no fault of their own" and the legislation would ensure tenants have two months' notice to leave their property if their landlord's residence is repossessed.
"Given the limited time available in this truncated Parliamentary session, I am keen to bring in a bill that is relatively simple and that will command widespread support in the House," Mr Iddon remarked.
Earlier this year, the Communities and Local Government department announced proposals to establish a register to clamp down on unscrupulous private landlords.
The National Landlords Association has stated that any measures must not punish the well-behaved "majority" of property professionals.
