Manchester congestion zone details revealed - commercial mortgages
20 June 2008
Details have started to emerge of the proposed boundary of the inner Manchester congestion charging zone.
Transport bosses have revealed some of the roads along which the boundary will run, along with some potential alternatives that may alter the final makeup of the zone.
Investors with commercial mortgages in the area may be checking to find out if their premises are in the zone and seek to find out what impact, if any, this may have on the value of those properties.
Under the scheme, rush hour traffic entering an outer zone based on the M60 orbital motorway during the morning peak traffic period will be charged £2, with a further £1 for those entering the central zone.
If businesses suffer from being in the zone, those with commercial mortgages in other parts of the conurbation may benefit, particularly if they are aided by proximity to the better public transport links that are promised in return for the implementation of the scheme.
A group of businessmen who are against the charge have launched a campaign against it.
The Forum of Private Business has started a petition on the issue, Crains Manchester Business reports.
