Manchester prospects boosted by chancellor - commercial mortgages

03 June 2008

In news which may interest those seeking commercial mortgages in the Manchester area, chancellor of the exchequer Alistair Darling has said the city has a bright economic and commercial future.

Mr Darling called the future of the city "buoyant" as he launched a £1.35 million12-month study of the city''s business potential.

The study will seek to uncover the best ways in which the city can develop its economy further, which in turn may boost the local commercial property sector.

In his visit Mr Darling went on to visit a number of new developments around the city, such as the BBC-led Media City project at Salford Quays, the City South partnership which is seeking to develop an area south of the city centre and redevelopment projects in east Manchester.

One company that is already taking up more commercial property space as its business in the city expands is commercial real estate firm Jones Lang Lasalle.

The firm has announced it is moving its Manchester office to the 105,000 sq ft Chancery Place, taking up 7,800 sq ft on a 15-year lease.
