NLA issues new advice - buy to let mortgages
09 June 2009
The National Landlords Association (NLA) has issued some advice that those with buy to let mortgages may find useful.
According to the organisation, there are a number of problems caused in rental properties by tenants using the homes as illegal cannabis factories.
Damage caused by growing drugs in a home can result in insurance claims being rejected and major renovation work being required, the NLA said.
In order to avoid this occurring, the association recommended that landlords make regular appointments to view their properties and conduct extensive referencing checks on would-be tenants before agreeing to a contract.
David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA, said: "Cannabis factories are a blight on local communities and make their neighbours' lives a misery. We very much welcome any moves to track down where these factories are and shut them down."
In other industry news last month, the NLA's new board member Sussanne Chambers said she wants the group to maintain a high standard of customer service under her guidance.
