NLA pleased with possession claims fall - buy to let mortgages

19 August 2008

The National Landlords Association (NLA) has welcomed new figures showing a fall in the number of repossession claims by landlords, something that may interest those with buy to let mortgages.

Figures from the Ministry of Justice have shown that the number of claims in the second quarter of 2008 was 38,786, down from the first quarter tally of 40,860.

NLA head of communications Simon Gordon concluded: "The facts speak for themselves. Fewer and fewer landlords are going to court to issue possession claims against their tenants and even fewer are being granted possession orders."

Pointing to a downward trend in such occurrences since 2002, Mr Gordon suggested this is evidence that relationships between landlords and their tenants have been improving, with the result being that problems are increasingly being resolved without court action being required.

It is the third successive year in which the second quarter has seen less possession claims than the first.
