Property development finance could be required in order to meet national targets for carbon dioxide reduction.
According to the founder of Whatgreenhome.com Gordon Miller, property in the UK needs to be retrofitted and made more environmentally friendly.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change said on March 2nd that Britain's houses will be made cheaper to run and greener over the next ten years.
It was noted that one-quarter of CO2 emissions come from energy used in homes.
Mr Miller said that the government has a legally binding agreement to cut the gas emissions by 80 per cent by 2050.
"Clearly retrofitting and bringing the existing homes up to speed is absolutely critical if we are going to meet our own emissions targets and reduce CO2 emissions," he added.
Property development finance may be especially important because it can cost approximately £12,000 to install photovoltaic panels on houses.
Mr Milled claimed that it is a lot to ask people to pay such prices up front in order to make houses greener.
