Property investment 'profitable' - buy to let mortgages
05 May 2009
The buy to let market in the UK has changed considerably over the last 18 months, but there is still money to be made, according to financial website MoneyNet.
Fewer lenders are available to choose from, the portal suggested, but investing in bricks and mortar can provide landlords with lucrative returns.
Despite the sector being "almost unrecognisable" to the one that existed in September 2007, buy to let can be a "profitable medium to long-term form of investment".
Investors should just be aware that there is now a "more realistic financing requirement" to join the market.
"Unfortunately it was a decade of booming house prices and a 'me too' mentality to make a quick buck that has seen both borrowers and lenders get their fingers severely burnt," it said.
Instead of around 100 lenders to choose from, there are now apparently closer to 30 options.
Last week, the British Bankers' Association indicated that gross mortgage lending in March 2009 was down £0.3 billion from February's reported figure of £9.2 billion.
