Rental sector proposals backed - buy to let mortgages
15 August 2008
In news that may interest those with buy to let mortgages, the National Landlord's Association (NLA) has welcomed the Law Commission's report into the private rental sector.
In the report, it has been stated that improved regulation can help raise the standard of accommodation in the sector.
Proposals to achieve this include establishing a housing standards monitor, a stakeholder board representing all sides with an interest in the sector, a pilot scheme for home condition certificates and having a landlord accreditation scheme in every local authority.
NLA chairman David Salusbury said the body is pleased to see these staged reforms, adding: "In fact, further enhancing good practice to build on voluntary self-regulation can only be a good thing for both landlords and tenants."
He added that the NLA was pleased that the "important role" that local authorities would play has been acknowledged.
