Scottish tenants 'happy with landlords' - buy to let mortgages

26 March 2009

A survey showing that the majority of tenants in Scotland are happy with their landlords has been welcomed by an industry body.

The Scottish government has released a report revealing that 85 per cent of those renting homes in the country are either 'very' or 'fairly' satisfied with owners.

Commenting on this, the National Landlords Association Scotland stated that the private rental sector in the nation is "flourishing".

Spokesperson David Kendall remarked: "Satisfaction levels remain a little higher than in England but there is no room for complacency."

He went on to urge landlords to ensure they are "better informed" about the responsibilities they have towards tenants.

Meanwhile, those with buy to let mortgages have been encouraged to save money by taking control of their portfolios and cutting out lettings agents that can charge "substantial fees".

Smartlandlord.co.uk offered the advice, noting that it costs around £200 for an agent to provide a tenancy agreement - but it can be done for free over the internet.
