Students told to protect deposit on buy to let property

11 August 2010

Written by Simon Whittaker

A guide for students has been released by mydeposits.co.uk, advising them to protect their deposits while staying in buy to let properties.

University attendees were told to ask their landlord for proof that the money they put down on the tenancy has been placed in one of three schemes designed to make sure their cash is secure.

It was also recommended that students ensure they have a copy of the inventory so that no debates regarding damage to the property ensue.

Additionally, the guide warned young people to make sure they have a deposit ready to pay when they move into a rented house and said they should be aware that the landlord may wish to check the abode occasionally.

Elsewhere, the Deposit Protection Scheme and the National Union of Students recently told university attendees to beware of unscrupulous portfolio investors, according to landlordzone.co.uk.
