Tenants warned about festive parties - buy to let mortgages

In buy to let mortgages news, it has been warned that the festive period is one of the most common times for tenants to damage a property.
Mydeposit.co.uk has urged occupants to consider the consequences of holding a Christmas or New Year's Eve party in a rented house or flat.
Cleaning costs associated with such occurrences are one of the biggest causes of landlords withholding deposits, the organisation claimed.
Chairman David Salusbury said that festive gatherings "pose a number of hazards" that could lead to people having to pay for any damage caused.
"A hangover may only last a day but tenants could find themselves paying for a festive party months after the fun has ended," he remarked.
Asking partygoers to smoke outside and moving precious objects into an empty room were suggestions made by the organisation that could help to protect a property.
Meanwhile, insurer MORE TH>N has warned that fire-related claims rise around the Christmas period.
