Halifax found that the most expensive street in England and Wales is Wycombe Square in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Property on the square costs an average of £5.4 million it was noted.

Greater London is home to the country's ten most expensive streets - with Ingram Avenue in Hampstead coming second in the list at an average price of £4.87 million per property.

Halifax claimed that Macclesfield's Withinlee Road is the most expensive street outside southern England.

Altrincham, Cheshire, is home to the next two highest-priced streets in the country.

Nitesh Patel, housing economist at the company said it was not surprising that England and Wales's most expensive streets are in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

"The fall in the value of sterling has helped to attract foreign buyers over the past year despite the worldwide economic recession," Mr Patel added.

According to the borough's website, it houses some of the UK's most popular tourist attractions and much of the local economy relies on visitors to the area.
